NailsA Maltipoo's toenail should be trimmed roughly every 2 to 3 weeks to keep it at an appropriate length. Having your dog's nails too long can negatively affect its standing posture and even cause accidental injury to you. Should you want to cut them yourself, it will be wise to get a specialized dog nail clipper instead of a human nail clipper, which may split and hurt its nails. Be careful not to cut too much or you may accidentally cut its quick, a live tissue that may bleed heavily and very painful to your dog if injured. Alternatively, you may leave the nail trimming to the experts if you don't want to risk injuring your dog.
BodyYou should bathe your Maltipoo roughly at least once a month. Before bathing it, comb your Maltipoo thoroughly to help untangle knots in its hair as water may tighten the knots. You might also want to place small cotton balls on its ears to prevent water from entering it, if your Maltipoo's ears is of the floppy-eared variety. Wet your Maltipoo completely to its skin before applying your dog shampoo and conditioner (conditioner is optional). When rinsing, do be sure to rinse away every bit of cleaning agent is gone as residues of it in your Maltipoo's coat can irritate it.
After bathing, you should always blow dry your dog, taking care not to use too high a heat level. Comb its hair again after drying it. As for trimming your dog's hair, adjust your frequency of trips to a trimmer according to your budget and your dog's preference.
TeethDirty teeth is a sure bet for teeth problems, making it difficult for your dog to eat. Thus, you should brush its teeth at least 2 to 3 times a week to help keep teeth problems at bay. Take note to NOT use your regular human toothpaste as it may contain ingredients that will upset your Maltipoo's stomach.
A good tip for Maltipoo owners is to start these maintenance procedures early in its life. This is because to help your dog get used to it and less likely to resist later on in their life, as puppies are more accepting of new experiences. Keeping your dog clean and free of diseases can help keep both your dog and your wallet happy. |
