maltipoo1.gifMaltipoos, are a mixed breed and are sometimes known as Moodles or Maltoodles, originates from the cross breeding of a Maltese and a Poodles. As such, Maltipoos makes for great lap dogs, just like their ancestors. However, that's not to say that Maltipoos are a laid back species. Maltipoos are usually ready for exercise and play whenever you are ready for some activity.

It's not easy to establish how your maltipoo may look like when it grows up. However, there are several questions that you could ask yourself.
Are it's parents purebreeds?
Are any of it parents a maltipoo as well?

Temperament

Maltipoos are generally a friendly species. Potential owners will find that this breed will provide little to worry about when it comes to human-animal interaction, both adults and children alike. Drawing its genes from its poodle ancestors, Maltipoos are an intelligent species and pick up new tricks easily. This however, makes early housebreaking essential. Although they are easily housebroken, they are smart enough to detect insufficient housebreaking, and take advantage by running riot in the house, usually when they are alone.

Although Maltipoos are very friendly, that's not to say that they can't identify malicious visitors and react appropriately. Although they aren't the kind to be defensive of their things (e.g. territory, food, toys) and can easily befriend another pet, they are smart enough to identify suspicious noises and individuals, making them a great watchdog despite its nature.

Health

Maltipoos as a breed enjoys the positives of their ancestors when it comes to the health department. Illnesses such as the White Shaker Dog Syndrome and the Luxating Patella rarely hit the Maltipoos unlike Maltese and Poodle purebreds, who occasionally exhibits such syndromes. As such, Maltipoos can expect a healthy lifespan of 12 to 15 years.

Coat

Maltipoos have another trait that suits human-rearing well - shedding characteristics. The Maltipoos' smooth, silky and wavy coat is not known for shedding, making life easy for those who dislike constant cleaning of dog hair off their furniture. The near-absent amount of shedding means good news for people with allergies who will less likely to have their allergies triggered by dog hair.

Energy level

Maltipoos, although generally grows around a small size of 9 pounds, can still pack quite a bit of energy. Although it won't be a great idea to take them along for hikes, they can keep up just fine during a walk in the park, or when you indulge in some exercise of your own. Maltipoos can provide a lot of fun indoors as well, being as good of a playmate indoors just like they can be at outdoors.

All in all, Maltipoos are a popular breed, suitable for most lifestyles. Be you the kind who prefers the couch, or the kind who enjoys the outdoors, or you simply want to have a dog around, Maltipoos will probably not disappoint as a companion.
