Maltese and Maltipoo do not have an undercoat so that they do not shed. However, same as any other animals, hair loss may still happen.
The coat of Maltese needs to be brushed every day. It is done to keep their long hair tangle-free and silky. Meanwhile maltipoo needs less brushing where they can be brushed 2 or 3 times a week.

Maltese and maltipoos also suffer from tear staining. It is a stain below their eyes and usually the gathering of liquid looks slimy and gritty.
